Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday night at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues including bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan, the growing importance of trade and investment, and defense cooperation.
General Mirza emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two nations and expressed Pakistan’s interest in further strengthening cooperation in various sectors.
He stated that there is immense potential for expanding trade, connectivity, and investment between Bangladesh and Pakistan. “Our two countries will continue to support each other,” said General Mirza. He also noted that a two-way maritime route between Karachi and Chattogram has already been launched, and a Dhaka-Karachi air route will be introduced soon.
Both sides also stressed the need to ease tensions in the Middle East and Europe and discussed the challenges posed by misinformation and the misuse of social media in undermining peace and stability.
The Chief Adviser said, “False news and misleading information are spreading rapidly on social media and are being used to create chaos. A unified global effort is needed to combat this threat.”
National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Senior Secretary and SDG Chief Coordinator Lamia Morshed, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider were present during the meeting.
