In the Farmgate area of Dhaka, a young man named Abul Kalam was killed when a Metro Rail bearing pad fell on him. The victim’s family will initially receive Tk 5 lakh in compensation. Additionally, if there is any able-bodied member in the family, they will be offered a job at Metro Rail.
Roads and Railways Adviser Fawzul Kabir Khan provided the information on Sunday (26 October) during an inspection of the accident site. He said, “Metro Rail will take full responsibility for the victim’s family. Necessary medical arrangements will also be made for the injured.”
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm in Farmgate when the bearing pad fell on Abul Kalam’s head. He was a resident of Ishorpati village in Naria Upazila, Shariatpur.
A five-member investigation committee, headed by Secretary of the Bridge Division Mohammad Abdur Rauf, has been formed to probe the incident. The committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks.
