Three people, including two school students, were killed when a bamboo-laden truck ran over a van in Pabna Sadar upazila’s Goyeshpur Union area. Two other students were injured in the accident, which occurred around 6:45 am on Sunday (October 26) on the Dhaka–Pabna highway in Bangabaria area.
The deceased were identified as van driver Akram Ali (56), and two local Cadet Collegiate School students — Tasnia (13), daughter of Shamsul Mollah of Jafrabad village, and Nur Mohammad Toha (13), son of Ahmad Ali of Panchampur village. The identities of the injured could not be confirmed immediately.
According to highway police and local sources, a bamboo-laden truck lost control while trying to avoid a collision with an auto-rickshaw and ended up crushing the stationary van beside the road. The van driver and two students died on the spot.
The injured students were taken to Pabna General Hospital in critical condition.
Madhpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman said, “Three people have died and two students were injured. The truck involved in the accident has been seized.
