The National Civic Party (NCP) has stated that it will sign the July Accord only when the implementation of the accord is guaranteed. Akhtar Hossain, the party’s Secretary-General, told reporters this on Saturday (25 October) after a meeting with the Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.
Akhtar Hossain said, “Signing the July Accord is a formality, but the space for its actual implementation has not yet been ensured. Once the implementation is guaranteed, we are interested in signing the accord.”
He added that the commission is preparing an implementation order for the July Accord, which they see as a sign of progress. However, the details of the order have not yet been presented to them, leaving them not fully optimistic.
Hossain emphasized, “We appreciate the commission’s sincere effort in preparing the implementation order. But we also urge the commission to ensure that the accord is not presented as a mere paper document under the pressure of any political party, and that it is implemented properly in practice.
