Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has announced that the government will waive the charges incurred due to the two-day flight disruption caused by the massive fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
He made the announcement on Sunday (October 19) while speaking to journalists in front of Gate No. 8 of the airport’s cargo village.
The commerce adviser said that the extent of financial damage is being assessed and all complaints related to the incident will be thoroughly investigated. He added that at the initial stage, it was not possible to remove goods from the site due to the intensity of the fire. He further stated that the government will bear the costs arising from the two-day flight disruption.
It may be noted that on Saturday (October 18), a devastating fire broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, leading to the temporary suspension of all flights at the country’s main airport.
