Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has announced that the schedule for the upcoming national parliamentary election will be declared in the first half of December. He made the statement on Saturday (October 18) during separate meetings in Barishal with law enforcement agencies, local government officials, and election officers.
The CEC said, “The national election is planned to be held in the first half of February. Accordingly, the election schedule will be announced in the first half of December.”
He further stated that since the government has banned all activities of the Awami League, the party cannot take part in the election until the ongoing trial is completed. However, if the trial concludes before the election, the situation will be reconsidered.
Regarding the NCP’s demand for the ‘Shapla’ (water lily) symbol, the CEC clarified that as the symbol is not listed in the Election Commission’s registered list, it cannot be allotted.
The CEC also emphasized that the Election Commission will not be influenced by any intelligence agency and will operate independently.
The meeting was attended by Barishal Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kawsar, deputy commissioners from six districts, and senior officials of law enforcement agencies.
