The airfield of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has been closed until 9 PM following a massive fire that broke out at the Cargo Village near Gate 8 on Saturday (October 18).
According to Fire Service media official Talha Bin Jasim, the fire was reported at 2:34 PM. Initially, nine units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene, later expanding to a total of 37 units working to bring the blaze under control.
Thick black smoke quickly spread across the area and could be seen from as far as five to six kilometers away. Due to the situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) temporarily suspended all flight operations.
CAAB’s Assistant Director (Public Relations), Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, stated that all agencies are working together to control the situation.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that two firefighting units from the Bangladesh Air Force and personnel from the Bangladesh Navy have joined the firefighting efforts.
