Students of Dhaka’s seven government colleges will hold a protest march toward the Education Ministry today (Monday, October 13), demanding swift implementation of the Dhaka Central University Act–2025. The program has been organized by the Seven College University Transformation Movement Council, a platform of general students.
The march is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. from each respective campus and converge in front of the Education Ministry at 11 a.m. According to the announced route, students of Dhaka College will start from Nilkhet, joining students from Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, and later proceed through Palashi and Bakshibazar. Students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Shahid Suhrawardy College will also march toward the Education Ministry around the same time. Meanwhile, students from Government Titumir College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Bangla College will join the rally from their respective campuses around 10 a.m.
Movement coordinator Md. Naim Howlader said, “If the government does not announce a final date for issuing the ordinance, current students will continue the movement and will not return to classes. We want a clear roadmap, not vague promises.”
Students expressed frustration that, despite the government’s earlier declaration, no specific timeline has been set for implementing the proposed university law.
Earlier, on March 26 of this year, the government announced plans to separate the seven government colleges from Dhaka University and form a new university named Dhaka Central University. The colleges include Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Shahid Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Mirpur Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
