False rumors about the death of Bangladesh’s beloved film actor and founder of the “Nirapad Sarak Chai” (We Demand Safe Roads) movement, Ilias Kanchan, have spread across social media. In response, his son Mirajul Moin Joy has urged everyone not to be misled by such misinformation.
In a statement issued on Friday, Joy said, “My father is currently unwell and undergoing regular treatment. Please do not believe or spread any rumors. I sincerely request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery.”
He further added, “Since the news of my father’s illness broke, activists of ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai,’ his fans, and well-wishers from home and abroad have been offering prayers for him. Especially today, during Jummah prayers, many have arranged special prayer gatherings. On behalf of our family, I extend heartfelt gratitude and love to everyone.”
Expressing disappointment, Joy said, “Unfortunately, some YouTubers and Facebook users are spreading misleading videos just for views. These actions are hurting people and distressing my father’s admirers. We strongly condemn such irresponsible behavior.”
