A jewelry shop at Fortune Shopping Mall in Malibagh, Dhaka, has reportedly been targeted in a major theft, with around 500 vori of gold ornaments allegedly stolen. The incident is believed to have occurred on Wednesday night, October 8.
Inspector (Investigation) Tarikul Islam of Ramna Police Station, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said they rushed to the scene after receiving the report and began an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that a group of thieves cut the shop’s shutter lock and entered to steal the gold. CCTV footage shows two burglars wearing burqas breaking into the shop around 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
The shop owner, Achintya Biswas, stated that his store had a total of 500 vori of gold, of which 400 vori belonged to the shop and 100 vori were pawned gold. Additionally, 40,000 Taka in cash was also stolen during the robbery.
Inspector Tarikul added that police are collecting CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas to identify the culprits, and authorities hope to arrest the suspects soon.
