Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the northern region of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has said, “Some advisers seem to be looking for a way to escape their responsibilities.
They think that merely completing the election will give them an easy exit. But if they are afraid to fulfill their duties after so many martyrs have sacrificed their lives, then they have no right to hold such positions. For those who think this way, there is no safe exit except death. No matter where they flee in the world, the people of Bangladesh will find them.”
He made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon while speaking to reporters after a coordination meeting of the NCP’s Naogaon district unit.
Sarjis Alam further stated, “There is no legal bar to using the Shapla (water lily) symbol in elections. Yet, the Election Commission (EC), an independent constitutional body, is behaving like an autocratic post-coup institution — unless it is acting under pressure from others. Such behavior will never be accepted. The EC must function independently and maintain public confidence.”
Regarding the upcoming national election, he said, “Discussions are ongoing between NCP leaders and other political parties on whether to form an electoral alliance. Meanwhile, the NCP aims to strengthen its organizational foundation by forming all district, upazila, and unit committees within November.”
He added, “If all the good people of Bangladesh unite, they can form a powerful political party. But any version of the Awami League has no relevance in post-coup Bangladesh. The NCP will never accept it.”
The coordination meeting was presided over by Monira Sharmin, joint convener and chief coordinator of the NCP Naogaon district unit. Also present were Imran Imon, NCP’s Rajshahi divisional organizational secretary, along with district and upazila leaders.
