At the first high-level conference on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar, held at the United Nations headquarters on Tuesday, the United States and the United Kingdom announced a new aid package of $96 million for the Rohingyas.
According to Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, the U.S. will provide $60 million, while the U.K. will contribute $36 million.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus delivered the opening speech at the conference. He stated that the only peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis is their repatriation to Myanmar. To achieve this, he proposed a seven-point plan to ensure stability in Rakhine and facilitate a safe and dignified return.
Dr. Yunus also noted, “Funding is gradually decreasing. The only peaceful path now is to begin the repatriation of the Rohingyas.
