Ahead of the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken up strict security measures across the country. A total of 430 platoons of BGB personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of the puja mandaps.
In a press release issued on Saturday (September 27), BGB’s Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam said that a total of 2,857 puja mandaps across the country have been brought under BGB security coverage. Of these, 1,411 mandaps are located in border and hill tract areas, while 1,446 mandaps are in non-border areas. Among the non-border regions, 441 mandaps are in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur City Corporation areas; 694 mandaps in Chattogram metropolitan area, Raozan, and Rangunia; and 311 mandaps in other parts of the country.
To avert any untoward incidents, BGB has intensified special patrols along the border and strengthened intelligence surveillance.
The press release further stated that BGB remains committed to safeguarding national peace, security, and sovereignty. To ensure peaceful celebrations, BGB is working in close coordination with local administrations and other law enforcement agencies to provide overall security during Durga Puja across the country.
