Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s Caretaker Government, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh. The Grand Mufti passed away on Tuesday morning in Riyadh at the age of 82.
In his condolence message, the Chief Advisor said that the Muslim Ummah has lost a distinguished scholar and a guiding figure in Islamic thought. His lifelong contributions to the service of Islam and his profound scholarship will be remembered with respect and gratitude. His absence will be deeply felt across the Islamic world.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh served as the head of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta in Saudi Arabia and also chaired the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League. He began his higher education at the Sharia College of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh in 1961 and completed his undergraduate studies in Arabic and Islamic Sharia in 1965. In June 1999, the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia appointed him as Grand Mufti.
He was globally respected for his deep knowledge of Islam and leadership.
