Awami League leader and former General Secretary of Chhatra League, Ajay Kar Khokon, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. He was detained early Wednesday morning from Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB), Md. Shafiqul Islam, told bdnews24.com that Ajay was arrested on allegations of organizing rallies for the recently banned Awami League. Authorities are also verifying whether he is accused in any other cases, including those related to anti-discrimination movements.
Ajay Kar Khokon served as General Secretary of Chhatra League during the 1998–2002 tenure. Later, he became active in Awami League politics. In the 10th parliamentary elections, he sought the party’s nomination from Kishoreganj–5 constituency but was denied. He then attempted to run as an independent candidate, but the Election Commission canceled his nomination papers.
