The National Citizen Party (NCP) has warned that the upcoming election will be questionable if the party is not allowed to use the Shapla (water lily) as its electoral symbol. The warning came from the party’s chief organizer in the northern region, Sarjis Alam.
In a post on his verified Facebook page Tuesday afternoon, Sarjis wrote: “Shapla is NCP’s symbol. There is no alternative. If not, we will see how the election is held and who dreams of coming to power.”
He alleged that when NCP first applied for registration, it clearly stated that the Shapla symbol was a must. However, it has still not been added to the official list of symbols. “Whose responsibility was it to add Shapla to the list? Did the Election Commission just sit and watch, or were they following instructions from other institutions or agencies?” he questioned.
Sarjis further warned that since there is no legal barrier, the NCP must be granted the Shapla symbol. “There is no other option. All kinds of deception will be confronted politically,” he added.
