To meet rising passenger demand, Dhaka Metro Rail’s operating hours will be extended by one hour starting this Friday (September 27) on a trial basis. Under the new schedule, trains will begin half an hour earlier in the morning and the last train will depart half an hour later at night.
With the change, the first train from Uttara will leave at 6:40 am and the last at 9:30 pm, while from Motijheel, the first train will depart at 7:00 am and the last at 10:10 pm.
Additionally, the interval between trains during peak hours will be reduced to 4 minutes 15 seconds, down from the current 6 minutes.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director, Faruk Ahmed, said the new schedule will be tested on a trial basis, and if successful, formal implementation may begin by December.
The country’s first metro rail was inaugurated on December 28, 2022. Currently, it operates between Uttara and Motijheel, with an extension to Kamalapur expected to be completed soon.
