In the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, a gunman opened fire, killing three police officers and critically injuring two others. The attacker was also shot dead in the exchange of fire.
According to Al Jazeera, the incident occurred while officers were responding to a domestic dispute. The injured officers remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris said all law enforcement resources have been deployed, while the area is still being treated as an “active scene.” The FBI and York County District Attorney’s Office will jointly lead the investigation.
Governor Josh Shapiro visited North Codorus Township, where the attack took place, and met with the families of the victims. He described the day as “tragic and devastating” for both York County and the entire state.
This marks one of the deadliest police-targeted shootings in the U.S. this year. Earlier in February, another officer was killed during a standoff. Following the latest incident, nearby schools were temporarily locked down. U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned such violence against law enforcement as a “scourge on society.
