Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 has arrested BNP leader Shahab Uddin in connection with the much-talked-about white stone looting case in Sylhet. He was detained around 11 pm on Saturday (September 13) from Kumarpara area of Sylhet city.
According to a press release issued by RAB, over the past year, a huge amount of stone was illegally extracted in Companyganj and Gowainghat upazilas. After media reports exposed the matter, it created a nationwide uproar. Following this, RAB-9 intensified its intelligence operations and, based on secret information, launched a raid and arrested Shahab Uddin, one of the prime accused in the infamous Bholaganj white stone looting case.
RAB-9’s media officer, Additional Superintendent of Police Shahidul Islam Sohag, said that Shahab Uddin has seven cases filed against him with Companyganj and Kotwali police stations in Sylhet. After the arrest, he was handed over to Kotwali police.
Earlier, Shahab Uddin, who served as the president of BNP’s Companyganj upazila unit in Sylhet, had all his party posts suspended. On August 11, a notification signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced his suspension from all positions.
