Senior journalist Tarikul Islam Shibli (40) died while covering the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. He was working as a city reporter for Channel S Television.
Around 1:30 PM on Tuesday (September 9), Shibli suddenly collapsed while reporting live inside Curzon Hall at Dhaka University. His colleagues immediately rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md. Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost said, “He was brought to the hospital’s emergency unit in a dead state around noon.” Channel S confirmed his death through a Facebook photo card, stating that he had suffered a stroke while gathering news.
Colleague Sohel Rana added that Shibli lost consciousness suddenly during live reporting. Originally from Burichang, Cumilla, Shibli had been residing in Uttara’s Diabari area. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
