In the turbulent waters of South Sudan’s Juba and Malakal, 199 members of the Bangladesh Navy have been awarded the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal for their relentless service. At a grand medal parade in Juba on Wednesday, UNMISS Force Commander Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian presented the medals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to global peace.
He praised the Bangladesh Navy’s Force Marine Unit, noting their courage in transporting fuel, food, and vital supplies through the hostile Nile, as well as their excellence in patrols, rescues, reconnaissance, and diving operations—making them a model in international peacekeeping.
Since 2015, the Bangladesh Navy has been serving as the only marine force under the UN mission in South Sudan. They have already navigated 1,311 kilometers of the Nile, successfully completing 71 “Operation Lifelines,” further elevating Bangladesh’s honor on the global stage.
