The Press Wing of the Chief Adviser has announced that very soon all buses in the capital, Dhaka, will operate under a unified system. The announcement was made on Tuesday (26 August) through a statement on the Chief Adviser’s verified Facebook page.
The statement said that bus transport in Dhaka has been running without any regulation for a long time, causing passengers to face daily traffic jams, accidents, fare fraud, and various inconveniences. While young and physically able passengers can somehow manage to get on buses, it is much more difficult for women, children, and the elderly. Additionally, buses running on ineffective routes are a major reason for traffic congestion in Dhaka, resulting in an annual loss of approximately 37,000 crore taka and wasting 3.2 million work hours every day.
The statement further mentioned that under the new system, all buses will follow designated routes and stops. This will ensure route discipline, better-managed bus services, and reduced inconvenience. Passenger safety and comfort will improve, and public transport will become more efficient. The Press Wing expressed hope that under the new system, Dhaka commuters will no longer have to struggle to get on buses or face fare fraud, making bus travel easier, faster, and more comfortable.
