The Hindu community in Bangladesh is observing Janmashtami today with religious fervor, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna appeared on the eighth lunar day (Ashtami) of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadra to establish righteousness and truth. Temples nationwide have organized special prayers and devotional programs, with devotees thronging sacred sites like Dhakeshwari National Temple since dawn.
The Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and ISKCON have arranged elaborate festivities, including processions and cultural events. In Dhaka, the main procession will commence from Dhakeshwari Temple, traversing key city routes under enhanced security by DMP. Government offices remain closed for the public holiday, allowing devotees to participate freely in the celebrations.
State-run Bangladesh Television and Radio, along with private satellite channels, are airing exclusive religious programs featuring devotional songs and discourses on Lord Krishna’s teachings. The celebrations blend spiritual solemnity with cultural vibrancy, reflecting Bangladesh’s tradition of interfaith harmony.
