  • The measles outbreak in the country is at an alarming level. Eight more children have died of measles symptoms in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 1,109 new cases of measles have been reported and 43 people have been confirmed to have measles.

This information was provided in the regular report on measles by the Directorate General of Health Services on Saturday (October 10).

According to the Department of Health, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-related symptoms this year has increased to 1,122. Of these, 102 have died from confirmed measles. On the other hand, 1,020 people have died from measles-related symptoms.

Eight people die in Dhaka in one day

The report said that all eight people who died of measles symptoms in the last 24 hours were from Dhaka Division. However, the report did not mention detailed information about their deaths.

At the same time, 43 people have been confirmed to have contracted measles in the country. With this, the total number of confirmed measles cases this year has increased to 21,666.

    Nearly two lakh suspected cases

According to the Department of Health, 1,109 new people have developed measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected measles cases this year to 195,197.

Confirmed cases and suspected cases are counted separately. A patient is not considered to have confirmed measles just because they have symptoms; testing confirms the infection.

These statistics of measles and measles-related deaths in the country raise concerns about the health risks to children. Rapid identification of infected people, necessary treatment, and vaccination programs are important to address the situation.
