Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (September 28).
At the beginning of the meeting, Yao Wen congratulated the Prime Minister for his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and the successful completion of various programmes in New York. He said in a series of recent farewell meetings that the Chinese ambassador is preparing to leave Bangladesh early next month.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stressed the need for further expansion of trade, investment and development cooperation between Bangladesh and China. Besides, various issues of mutual interest of the two countries, including the Rohingya crisis, were also discussed.
Ambassador Yao Wen assured China’s continued cooperation in Bangladesh’s development efforts. At the same time, he hoped that Bangladesh-China relations would be further strengthened and expanded in the future.
Earlier, during the outgoing meeting of the Chinese ambassador, issues of mutual interest, including trade, investment, infrastructure development, Teesta river project and Rohingya crisis, have also been raised. In recent times, the two countries have also discussed the expansion of further development cooperation in the field of Bangladesh-China relations as well as further expansion of development cooperation.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir and Investment Bangladesh Authority Chairman Ashik Chowdhury were present at the meeting. The Chinese ambassador was accompanied by the country’s deputy chief of mission Liu Yuin.
