Biman Bangladesh Airlines has taken the initiative to purchase eleven more aircraft from US manufacturer Boeing to add new aircraft to the fleet. A deal with Boeing is expected to sign in New York on Wednesday.
According to aviation sources, the agreement is scheduled to be signed at 4pm local time on Wednesday during the 81st General Assembly session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to Bangladesh time, the event will be held at 2pm on Thursday.
The agreement will be signed by Rumi Akhtar Hossain, chairman of the Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir will be present on the occasion.
After the signing of the agreement, President of Boeing Global, Dr. Brendan Nelson will meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a $7 billion deal with Boeing on April 30. Under the agreement, eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9 and four 737-8 aircraft are expected to be purchased. The number of aircraft in the agreement is fourteen.
The number of planned aircraft procurement from Boeing will increase to 25 when the proposed 11 aircraft contract is completed on Wednesday.
However, the model, total price, financing structure and supply schedule of eleven aircraft to be added to the new additions have not yet been released. Details will be provided after the agreement.
