Poetry always captures time, speaks of people, of the ages. And with that unbroken thread of storytelling, the traditional recitation organization ‘Swarbrutta’ held a special lecture ‘Poetry of Time and Water’ at the Biswa Sahitya Kendra in Dhaka.
This recital evening was organized at the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra in Bangla Motor, Dhaka, on a beautiful autumn evening at the end of the monsoon season on 29 August 2026 (Saturday). At the beginning of the program at 7 pm, the President of Swarbrutta, Md. Akhter Hossain, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone present.
In poetry, the reciters present songs of joy and pain, ups and downs, hopes and aspirations, and learning to live anew. The message of moving life forward towards immense potential with the nourishment of water and the care of time emerges throughout the performance.
Swarbrutta’s recitation artists Jannatul Ferdous Rima, Manoj Dutta, Shiuli Rani Bala, Mariam Akhter Jharna, Kamrun Nahar Babli, Khandaker Md. Jahangir Hossain, Susmita Haque, Md. Akhter Hossain, Mahanur Jabin Sharmin and Mortahin Billah Toha performed their recitations one by one at the event.
Recitation performance and background arrangements
A total of 22 poems were recited in the program. At the beginning, Jannatul Ferdous Rima recited Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Brushti Padhe Tapur Tupur’ and later Jibanananda Das’s ‘Kuri Baar Pare’. Poet Manoj Dutta recited his own poem ‘Ghuri’ and Amiya Chakraborty’s ‘Brushti’. Shiuli Rani Bala recited her own poem ‘Chithi’. Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Ashaad’ and Mahadev Saha’s ‘Manushai Mohat Shilpa’ were recited by Maryam Akhter Jharna. Ahsan Habib’s ‘Ami Koon Aangtuk Nai’ and Shamsur Rahman’s ‘Shaheed Jananike Nibedit Panktimala’ were recited by Khandaker Md. Jahangir Hossain. Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah’s ‘Baishakher Nagar Dolay’ and Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Barshar Dine’ were performed by Kamrun Nahar Babli. Mallika Sengupta’s ‘Shubham Tome’ and Abu Zafar Obaidullah’s ‘Shefalir Phul’ were recited by Sushmita Haque. Akhtar Hossain solo performed Mahadev Saha’s ‘Mon Bhal Nei’ and Syed Shamsul Haque’s ‘Nuraldiner Sarajiban’. In addition, Akhtar Hossain, along with Shiuli Rani Bala, jointly presented Sunil Gangopadhyay’s ‘Ja Chechi, Ja Pabo Na’.
Mahanur Jabin Sharmin solo recited Joy Goswami’s ‘Meghbalikar Yona Rupakatha’ and Mahadev Saha’s ‘Manusher Sathe Thako’. On the other hand, Mortahin Billah Toha recited Helal Hafiz’s ‘Ichche Chil’ and Abul Hasan’s ‘Brushti Mehraban Bhalao’. In addition, Mahanur Jabin Sharmin and Mortahin Billah Toha jointly performed Joy Goswami’s ‘Kathopakothan 13’ and Ataur Rahman’s ‘Bartamanta’. The entire event ended with a chorus reciting Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poem ‘Bangladesh’.
The entire program was conducted by Mahanur Jabin Sharmin. Khandaker Md. Jahangir Hossain provided the beautiful stage decoration and Sushmita Haque handled the excellent writing and direction.
