
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the government is working towards establishing Bangladesh as a welfare-oriented state. He said that improving the living standards of the common people of the country, especially the rural population, is one of the main goals of the government.
He made these remarks at a program to release fish fry in the Old Brahmaputra River and exchange views with local people on the occasion of National Fisheries Day-2026 in Mirzapur Chairman Barighat area of Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on Sunday (August 16) afternoon.
The Prime Minister said, “We want to establish Bangladesh as a welfare state. The government is working towards that goal.” She also said that the government has specific plans to change the fate of the people of the country.
Regarding women’s education, Tarique Rahman said, “The government has decided to make education free for women up to honors. The government will bear the necessary expenses of education and stipends will also be provided for students who achieve good results.”
He said, “Women constitute half of the country’s population. It is not possible to develop the country by leaving women behind. Therefore, initiatives have been taken to expand women’s educational opportunities and make them economically self-reliant.”
The Prime Minister said that there is a plan to provide school bags and school uniforms to about 12 million children from poor families in phases. Along with new books, initiatives will be taken to deliver these items to the children every year.
Regarding the financial empowerment of women, he said that family cards will be delivered to female-dominated families in phases. The aim is to deliver these cards to every household in the country within the next five years. He said that the formal activities of the family card program at the national level are also being started in Kishoreganj.
Releasing fish fry in the old Brahmaputra River, the Prime Minister said that these fish will grow up and spread in rivers, canals and beels, and the people of Bangladesh will enjoy its benefits. She also said that fish fry will be released in various water bodies of the country in phases.
Calling for caution against attempts to mislead the public at this time, the Prime Minister said that the government’s plans to change the fate of the people are being implemented step by step.
According to the itinerary, the Prime Minister will participate in the family card distribution, allowance, grant and award ceremony at the old stadium in Kishoreganj in the afternoon. Later, after various programs, she is scheduled to leave Kishoreganj for Dhaka in the evening.
