The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the purchase of one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Singapore-based Vittal Asia Pte Ltd to meet the country’s energy needs. The price of LNG has been fixed at US$22.35 per MMBTU.
The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement held at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 30). The meeting was presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
According to a notification from the Cabinet Division, this LNG will be purchased through the International Quotation (RFQ-International) method as per the Public Procurement Rules-2025. The government will spend Tk 949 crore 43 lakh 12 thousand 184 on this. This is the 42nd LNG cargo purchased by the government in 2026. The supplier company will supply the LNG between August 15 and 16.
Meanwhile, another proposal from the Industries Ministry was also approved in the same meeting. In the first lot of the 2026-27 fiscal year, 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer will be imported from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh. The price per metric ton has been set at 357.25 US dollars. The total cost of the government will be 132 crore 62 lakh 90 thousand 625 taka.
