Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a significant reduction in the retail price of privately supplied Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), offering relief to households across the country.
The price of a 12kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Tk 357, bringing the new retail price down to Tk 1,528. The revised rates came into effect from 6:00 pm on Thursday.
This marks the second consecutive monthly price cut, following a Tk 55 reduction in the previous month. According to BERC, the latest adjustment reflects a decline in global LPG prices after tensions in the Middle East eased.
Under the new pricing structure, the retail rate of LPG has been fixed at Tk 127.30 per kilogram, down from the previous Tk 157.06 per kilogram. Prices of cylinders of other sizes will also be calculated based on this revised per-kilogram rate.
Meanwhile, the price of the government-supplied 12.5kg LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Tk 825. BERC has also reduced the price of LPG autogas used in vehicles to Tk 70.40 per litre, down from Tk 86.93 per litre.
BERC reviews LPG prices every month based on international market trends. The commission determines local prices using the Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP) published by Saudi Aramco for propane and butane—the two primary components of LPG—along with the average exchange rate of the US dollar and import costs.
Despite the official pricing mechanism, consumers have frequently complained that many retailers charge above the regulated rates. Industry observers have urged authorities to strengthen market monitoring to ensure that the newly reduced prices are implemented at the retail level.
