Diplomatic activity in Switzerland has intensified ahead of important discussions on the implementation of the recent agreement between the United States and Iran and regional stability.
US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday to attend the scheduled meeting. Earlier, an Iranian delegation also arrived there to participate in the talks.
According to diplomatic sources, the ongoing dialogue between Washington and Tehran, the ceasefire situation, and regional security issues will be of importance at the meeting, to be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
The US administration said that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Senior Advisor Jared Kushner have already arrived in Switzerland to conduct technical preparations and coordination for the meeting. Ahead of the visit, JD Vance expressed hope that the two sides will be able to achieve effective progress to maintain the ongoing ceasefire and avoid future tensions.
Iranian state media reported that Tehran’s delegation arrived in Zurich on Saturday as part of preparations for the talks. There is cautious optimism in diplomatic circles in both countries surrounding the meeting.
Meanwhile, regional mediation efforts have also intensified. Various international media reports said that Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir are going to Switzerland to cooperate and coordinate in the negotiation process. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that Qatar will also participate in this diplomatic initiative and support efforts to establish regional peace.
Diplomatic sources also said that the agenda for the first day of the meeting will focus on the security situation in the Middle East. In particular, an urgent review session on the Israel-Hezbollah conflict is reportedly included. However, representatives of Hezbollah, Israel, or the Lebanese government will not directly participate in this session.
According to analysts, the meeting in Switzerland will not only determine the future direction of US-Iran relations; it could also have an impact on the broader geopolitical situation in the Middle East, regional security, and multilateral diplomatic initiatives.
