The measles situation in the country has taken a worrying turn. In the last 24 hours, 10 more children have died of measles and its symptoms. Of these, one child died of confirmed measles and nine children with symptoms.
This information was provided in the latest report of the Directorate General of Health Services on Sunday (May 3).
According to the report, 1,261 new children were diagnosed with measles or had symptoms during the same period, raising concerns about the infection and death rate.
According to the Department of Health, a total of 294 children have died across the country in the last one and a half months (March 15 to May 3). Of these, 50 died of confirmed measles and 244 died with symptoms.
During this period, 5,313 children have been confirmed to be infected with measles. In addition, 40,491 children have sought treatment at various hospitals across the country with measles symptoms.
The highest number of cases and deaths have occurred in Dhaka division. So far, 150 children have died of measles and suspicious symptoms in this division and 21,976 children have been infected.
Health experts say the situation could worsen unless vaccination programs are strengthened and rapid identification and treatment are ensured.
