The government has sent 16 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and one Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police on compulsory retirement in the public interest, the Home Ministry confirmed in a separate notification issued on Sunday.
The notification said that this decision has been implemented under Section 45 of the Government Services Act, 2018 and the concerned officers will get all retirement benefits as per the rules. It was also mentioned that the order will come into effect immediately.
The retired officers include several senior officers serving in various important units. They include DIGs of various branches including the Anti-Terrorism Unit, Highway Police, CID, Police Headquarters, Railway Police.
Sources have indicated that the decision was taken as part of an administrative reorganization, but no detailed explanation has been given by the government.
