A businessman, Md. Kawser Mia, was severely injured in a attack and his wife was abducted by alleged terrorist Ruhul Amin in Bangra Bazar of Cumilla district.
The incident occurred last Saturday (April 18) at around 2:00 PM. According to local sources, Ruhul Amin—described as a notorious criminal and a local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader (formerly affiliated with Chhatra League)—along with his associates, intercepted Md. Kawser Mia, owner of Bhai Bhai Traders in Bangra Bazar, and demanded extortion money.
When Kawser Mia refused to comply, the attackers assaulted him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. During the attack, his wife, Shiuli Begum, was taken hostage and abducted. As of the time of writing this report, her whereabouts remain unknown, and Kawser Mia is in critical condition. The incident has created widespread panic and concern in the area.
It is worth noting that Ruhul Amin and his associates have long been involved in such criminal activities. Before the change in government, he was associated with Chhatra League. He reportedly faces over a hundred cases, including drug trafficking, extortion, rape, abduction, and murder.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangra Police Station, Md. Abdul Kader, stated that they have not yet received any formal complaint. He added that necessary action will be taken following an investigation if a complaint is filed.
It is further that Ruhul Amin is a convicted offender in rape and murder cases. For a long time, he and his associates have been involved in extortion, drug trafficking, and terrorist activities in Cumilla and surrounding areas. Due to his oppression, many residents have fled the area and gone into hiding.
Ruhul Amin reportedly joined the BNP some time ago and has been using his political network across the country to run his drug business. In May 2025, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case for shooting and killing a rice trader in Gazipur district. Despite having multiple cases and convictions against him, no action has been taken by the police.
