Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held his first official meeting with the country’s top business leaders to strengthen the country’s investment environment and tackle the ongoing crisis in the industrial sector.
The meeting, which began at the Prime Minister’s Office at 11am on Saturday, is seen as the beginning of a new dialogue between the government and the private sector. Finance minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and commerce minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir were present at the meeting.
Top entrepreneurs from various industries also participated in the meeting. The main objective of the discussion was to identify the problems of the industrial sector, to increase investment and to pave the way for new initiatives for economic development. Although no detailed decision or final announcement was made at the end of the meeting, the businessmen present assessed the new dialogue as positive.
