TEHRAN — Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is safe, the family of President Masoud Pajeshkian has said, despite rumors circulating on social media that he has been injured.
The president’s son, Yusuf Pezeshkian, said in a message on Telegram that he had contacted the relevant people after hearing the news of the Supreme Leader’s injury. They said, “By the grace of God, he is safe and there are no problems.”
Mojtaba Khamenei was declared Iran’s supreme leader on Sunday. He is the second son of the late leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and has long been discussed as a possible successor.
However, Mojtaba Khamenei has not yet made any official statements since taking up his new position; he has not even been seen in public.
According to analysts, he had long exerted political influence from behind the scenes and was relatively less visible in public politics.
