Iran’s elite military force , the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has warned that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until “sufficient pressure” is exerted on its enemies.
In a speech on state television on Monday, the IRGC’s top commander, Brigadier General Ebrahim Jabari, said that action would be taken against any ship attempting to sail in violation of the sanctions.
Jabari claimed that closing the strait would cause a major shock to the global energy market. According to him, oil prices could quickly reach $200 a barrel. He added that regional pipelines could also be targeted to prevent oil exports from the Middle East.
