The official results of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum will be announced on Friday morning, the day after the voting, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah said. The announcement will be made after the results obtained from across the country are collated and verified centrally.
Briefing international election observers and journalists at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (February 11), he said that while the registration process for postal votes was digital, the counting of votes will be done manually, based on parliamentary constituencies. Only postal votes received by 4 pm on polling day will be included in the count.
Regarding the security situation, EC Sanaullah said that more than 900 weapons looted after the recent unrest have been recovered and three-tier security measures have been taken at polling stations. Most of the centers will be under CCTV surveillance.
On the issue of dual citizenship, he clarified that dual citizens can vote – there is no constitutional barrier to this. However, to become a candidate for parliament, one must renounce the citizenship of another country.
