The fire service brought the blaze that broke out in two buildings in the capital’s Chawkbazar under control after an hour and a half of effort. The fire was brought under control around 6 pm on Monday, said Anwarul Islam, an official of the media cell of the Fire Service headquarters.
Seven units from Lalbagh, Palashi and Siddiqbazar stations rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the fire. Officials said that due to the coordinated efforts, major damage could be avoided. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be known after an investigation.
One of the two buildings housed a grain godown, employee housing, and a luggage fittings factory. The other building had a workshop on the ground floor and offices on the upper floor. A continuous operation was launched after the fire was reported at 4:42 pm.
A few hours earlier, a fire broke out in a six-story building in Mohammadpur’s Jahuri neighborhood; it was quickly brought under control with the efforts of two units.
