Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that an extensive security arrangement will be enforced across the country for nine days ahead of the upcoming national election.
Speaking to journalists outside the Patuakhali Circuit House on Saturday afternoon, he said law enforcement agencies would begin “heightened operations” five days before the polls.
Responding to a question, he stated that security forces would remain deployed on election day and for an additional three days afterward. During this period, the number of army personnel will be increased to 100,000, with 150,000 police, 35,000 border guards (BGB), 5,000 navy personnel, 4,000 coast guard members, 8,000 RAB officers, and more than 550,000 Ansar members on duty. Currently, around 30,000 army personnel are deployed in the field.
The adviser emphasized that there is no cause for concern regarding security and assured that the election would be held “peacefully.”
As part of his inspection tour, he later proceeded to visit the Patuakhali Police Lines, the Coast Guard station, and the naval and tourist police camps in Kuakata. After an overnight stay, he is scheduled to travel to Barishal the following morning before returning to Dhaka.
