On the second day of the Sylhet Test, Bangladesh made a commanding start at the crease. Within just 15 minutes of the day’s play, Bangladesh came out to bat after taking the last two wickets of Ireland.
Openers Sadman Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored quickly, taking the team total past 100 to 109 without losing a wicket by lunch. Sadman reached his seventh Test fifty off 49 balls, hitting 7 fours and 1 six. Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 50 off 72 balls with 7 fours and 1 six, marking his fifth Test fifty.
The Irish bowlers struggled to contain the two openers, conceding over 4.3 runs per over on average.
Earlier, in their first innings, Ireland posted 286 runs, with Paul Stirling scoring 60, Cad Carmichael 59, Curtis Campher 44, Lorcan Tucker 41, McCarthy 31, and Jordan Neill 30. For Bangladesh, Mehedi Hasan Miraz took 3 wickets, while Hasan, Hasan Murad, and Taijul took 2 wickets each, and Nahid Rana took 1.
Bangladesh is now well-positioned to build a big first-innings total without falling under pressure from Ireland’s previous innings.
