Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has announced that the party will publish its candidate list by November 15. He stated that any alliance or electoral understanding would be based solely on ideological alignment. Parties that support the reform demands outlined in the July Declaration may be considered for coalition.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday (November 5) after meeting the family of Gazi Salahuddin—who was shot during the July movement and later died—at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, Nahid Islam expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and assured continued support.
He said that many of those injured in the July movement are still suffering without proper treatment. Due to the failure of the interim government, the number of martyrs continues to rise. He urged the government to ensure long-term medical treatment and financial support for the injured activists and the families of the martyrs.
Regarding the election, Nahid Islam said that the NCP is preparing to field candidates in all 300 constituencies independently. However, as a gesture of respect towards notable figures who contributed significantly to the democratic movement, the party may choose not to nominate candidates in certain constituencies—possibly including the constituency of Begum Khaleda Zia.
He further stated that the NCP seeks to challenge the influence of money and political godfather culture in elections and aims to bring thoughtful, hardworking individuals—such as teachers, imams, and ordinary working people—into the parliament.
