A court has ordered the seizure of income tax records belonging to former Finance and Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal (Lotus Kamal), his wife Kashmiri Kamal, and their two daughters Kashfi Kamal and Nafisa Kamal.
On Monday (November 3), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order following four separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC petitions, while serving as minister, Mustafa Kamal allegedly abused his power to illegally amass vast amounts of wealth and attempted to legitimize those assets by transferring them to his wife and daughters’ names.
The allegations state that Kashmiri Kamal holds assets worth Tk 44 crore, Kashfi Kamal Tk 31 crore, and Nafisa Kamal Tk 62 crore — with hundreds of crores of taka in suspicious transactions through multiple bank accounts.
The ACC said that, for the sake of fair investigation, it is essential to obtain and review their income tax records, assessment reports, and all related documents. The court has granted the ACC’s petitions to seize those records.
