The court has ordered the seizure of a total of 1,422 bighas of land in Gazipur and Cox’s Bazar belonging to S. Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam and his associated interests. The order was issued on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director Tahasin Munabil Haque filed the petition seeking the seizure of the land. After the hearing, the court ordered the seizure of 8.58 acres in Gazipur Sadar, 4.86 acres in Sripur, 272.68 acres in Pekuya, Cox’s Bazar, 180.2821 acres in Maheshkhali, 2.1200 acres in Cox’s Bazar Sadar, and 0.9675 acres in Chokoria Sadar.
According to the ACC petition, Mohammad Saiful Alam, his associated entities, and related individuals are under investigation for money laundering. The investigation revealed that they illegally obtained loans from various banks in the names of different entities and misappropriated the funds to acquire substantial assets in the country and abroad under their own and family members’ names.
Based on information obtained during the investigation, they are attempting to transfer or dispose of these immovable assets. Therefore, the court ruled that it is necessary to seize these assets urgently to prevent their transfer or disposal before the completion of the investigation.
