At the Quantum Lab, when a person donates blood, it can save the lives of four people rather than just one. Through regular blood donations at the Quantum Lab, a donor can donate 25 or even 50 times. It takes approximately 9 years for a donor to give blood 25 times, and around 18 years to reach 50 donations. To achieve 100 donations, a donor would need to continue for nearly 36 years.
These remarks were made by speakers at the Quantum Lab’s award ceremony honoring over 300 voluntary blood donors. The event was held on Tuesday (28 October) evening at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka. The chief guest of the ceremony was Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University.
In his speech, Dr. Kabir highlighted that sustained blood donation over a long period is not an easy task, emphasizing it as a humanitarian service. He further noted that while neighboring Bhutan is self-sufficient in blood supply, Bangladesh, with its large population, still faces a shortfall, urging young people to step forward in this humanitarian cause.
At the ceremony, donors were honored according to their contribution: those who donated at least 3 times received “Life Long” recognition, 10 times for Silver, 25 times for Gold, and 50 times for Platinum Club membership. The chief guest presented certificates, crests, and medals to the donors to encourage voluntary blood donation.
Speakers at the event included Rumana Haque, a B-positive donor who has donated 25 times, sharing her experience, and Thalassemia patient Khadija Akter Molly, who expressed gratitude to the donors.
The event also highlighted that Quantum Lab has so far recognized 2,959 donors who have given blood at least 25 times (Gold Donors) and 152 Platinum Donors who have donated 50 times.
The program was presided over by Motivation M. Rezaul Hasan, Director of Quantum Foundation’s voluntary blood donation program, with a welcome speech by Dr. Moniruzzaman, coordinator of the program. They emphasized the need for more young donors to contribute to meeting the country’s blood demand fully.
It was also noted that a healthy adult can donate blood every four months without any risk, which not only does no harm but also improves overall physical and mental well-being.
