BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on all political parties to participate in the upcoming elections. On Saturday (October 25), he made the appeal during his keynote speech at an event at the Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka. He emphasized that minor disputes should be set aside to strengthen the democratic system.
Fakhrul stated that Bangladesh can progress through credible elections, and if elections are held on time, the country can return to a genuine democratic system. He alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, 6 million workers were subjected to false cases, and 20,000 workers were victims of enforced disappearances or killings.
He further remarked that political violence and disagreements should not be escalated and that the election process should remain the main focus for all parties.
At the event, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam mentioned that Sheikh Hasina had established a Bakshal-style system with a unique formula, and at that time, the media collectively published her statements. Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam added that current media has not failed to reflect the fear-based culture of the previous government, and now it is their responsibility to expose the truth.
