A team of experts from four countries is set to investigate the recent fire incident at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said experts from Australia, China, England, and Turkey will come to determine the cause of the fire and identify responsibility.
On Saturday at around 11:45 AM, after inspecting the cargo village and the e-gate, he told reporters that the Fire Service acted promptly to control the blaze. Four units of the Airport Authority arrived at the scene within four minutes, while the Fire Brigade units reached within 15–20 minutes. He added that the fire spread quickly because the area contained mostly food products, not chemicals.
The Home Affairs Adviser also mentioned that discussions are ongoing to expedite the installation of electronic gates at the airport and assured that the government will take steps to reduce passport-related difficulties for remittance workers.
