The government is taking all possible measures to make the upcoming February national election peaceful and festive, said Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
German Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz met with the Chief Adviser on Wednesday (October 22), during which they discussed election preparations, political dialogue, and bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Germany.
The Chief Adviser welcomed the ambassador to Bangladesh and expressed hope that the friendly relations between the two nations would reach new heights during his tenure.
During the meeting, Ambassador Lotz inquired about preparations for the February 2026 national election and praised the interim government’s reform efforts, particularly the July National Charter. He said, “It is very encouraging to see political parties sitting together for dialogue. These reform initiatives must continue even after the election.”
Professor Yunus said, “The National Consensus Commission has done a remarkable job by bringing major political parties together. It has created a historic moment of unity and a shared commitment to change and trust ahead of the election.”
He further stated, “The government is doing everything possible to ensure that the February election is peaceful, participatory, and festive.”
The two also discussed trade relations, educational cooperation, and the Rohingya refugee crisis. The Chief Adviser noted that Germany is Bangladesh’s largest trading partner in Europe and expressed hope that bilateral trade and investment would further expand under the new ambassador’s tenure.
