A couple posing as fruit traders was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Bandarban for allegedly producing and distributing pornographic content. The arrest took place around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (October 19) from a rented apartment in the Roangchhari bus station area of Bandarban town.
According to local sources, the couple rented an apartment on the fifth floor of a building under the guise of being fruit traders and were secretly engaged in illegal activities. The building manager said that they rented the flat on October 13 for Tk 10,000 per month, submitting all required documents, including their ID cards. He added that the duo always wore helmets whenever they went outside, apparently to conceal their identities.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, Masud Parvez, stated, “The couple was arrested during a late-night raid and sent to Chattogram Jail that same night.”
Before the arrest, allegations had surfaced that the couple was operating on international adult platforms while staying in Bangladesh. They presented themselves as “models” on social media and regularly uploaded videos on one of the world’s largest adult websites.
Reports suggest that they had been active online since May 2024, publishing over a hundred videos and amassing a large number of followers. They were also active on Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram, where they shared links to new videos and income screenshots.
Recently, investigative platform The Descent published a detailed report exposing the couple’s activities, sparking widespread discussion across the country.
Under Bangladesh’s Pornography Control Act 2012, producing or distributing pornographic content is a criminal offense. Law enforcement suspects that the couple not only engaged in these crimes themselves but also encouraged others to join, forming a growing network of pornography production within the country.
