A cocktail attack took place at a meeting venue of the National Citizen Party (NCP)’s Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam in Bogura. The incident occurred on Monday (October 20) afternoon at the District Council Auditorium.
According to reports, after attending a coordination meeting in Joypurhat, Sarjis Alam arrived at the Bogura District Council Auditorium around 3 p.m. He spoke to journalists about various issues, including the upcoming elections, before joining the coordination meeting. Just moments before the meeting began, two cocktails were hurled from near the Karatoa River behind the District Council building. One exploded inside the compound, while the other remained unexploded and was later recovered by police.
Law enforcement officials rushed to the scene and began an investigation.
Bogura District NCP leader Shawkat Imran said the attack might have been premeditated, as it occurred right before the meeting started. However, the attackers have not yet been identified.
NCP Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said, “This kind of attack raises concerns about the country’s overall security situation. We urge the interim government and the administration to remain alert. The identities of those involved must be revealed, and they must be brought to justice.”
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Bashir stated that multiple police teams are investigating the incident. He assured that those responsible will be identified and brought under the law, adding that no one will be spared.
